Halloween Madness 2: Terror In The Old West!

This Halloween, something a little bit different for Pulp City. Last years Halloween Madness saw  the heroes and villains of Pulp City battling a horde of Zombies, but this year they have been transported back in time to help ace of race battle spectral Gun fighters in the Old West as they battle it out for control over a powerful 'Quantum Node'.

Many thanks to Leon (Pulp Citizen) for turning my photos into this brilliant work of art. The Pulp City figures are all Leon's- the cowboys, ghost and by-standers are all mine. We both worked on the scenery.

Big Game 5 for VBCW

It’s been a massive Very British Civil War-Fest for me this weekend with Evesham hosting the Big Game 5 (BG5) at Gripping Beast’s own workshop (the fabled Beast Towers).  A whole week end of immersing myself in the VBCW nonsense, with other like minded individuals, while we battle it out to save Somerset form the dastardly machinations of the Anglican Bishop of Bath and Wells.
Here’s a few pictures. There are lots more over on the VBCW forum in the Gentleman’sWargaming Parlour. Leon even managed to persuade his misses to let him out for the day to join in the fun.

Italian Troops employed by the Catholic land owners who support the King fought well. They took heavy casualties.

Italian officers pour over the maps. Some confusion seems to have arisen because the Italian's maps were out of date.

Zomtober 4: The Final Wave!

As Zomtober draws towards the end I have finished my final zeds for this month. These two (or should that be one and a half) bring the total to ten, increasing my zombie outbreak from a pack to a full-blown horde of twenty-six!

I look forward to seeing what the other Zomtobernaughts (I just made that word up) will finish before the end of the month- but that’s it for me. I am off on holiday for a few days so I doubt I will get a chance to paint any more zeds before Zomtober is over. Still, there is always next year.

My first zombie is a tramp (hobo) from Studio Miniatures. He seems to have come badly in a fight, having most of his face chewed off. This is my favourite zombie form this pack. I think he is very character.

This is my final Zomtober zombie, and she is in a bad way. This crawler-zombie has been literally torn in two, either by another zombie, a heavy weapon, or perhaps a truck has even hit her. Mind you, it hasn't stopped her relentless pursuit of living flesh (although it has slowed her down somewhat. This miniature is one of the plastic ones from Wargames Factory. I added some more guts with green stiff and super glue.

Thanks you for following my Zomtober exploits. I hope you have enjoyed.

Zomtober 3: The Restless Dead!

More Zombies for Zomtober! These three ‘lovely’ ladies are plastic Zombie Vixens from Wargames Factory.

The first is an office worker caught out by the zombie apocalypse. The looks like she has had her arm chewed off. Death, and subsequent return as a zombie, must have been pretty swift as she still has her brief case clutched in her one good hand.

The next one was presumably in a state of undress when the zombies got her. She has some nasty bite marks and gouges. She also appears to be a rare zombie sub-type- namely the ‘runner’. She looks like she has had some luck hunting other unfortunates, as her hands and mouth are stained with dried blood!

The final Zed for this week’s Zomtober entry is a zombie waitress from the local greasy spoons diner. I had a go at painting a dark-skinned zombie- and I am pretty pleased with the results.

Hope you like them- This brings the Zomtober total for me to eight.

Zomtober 2- The Dead Return!

For me Zomtober continues with three more zeds. This brings my total to five, which obviously was the target for the entire month. Rest assured, however, as I will continue to plod on with these, seeing how many more I can get through in during Zomtober. Ten would be great!

Other Bloggers attempting the Zombtober challenge are doing equally well. Brummie, despite having no zombies ready to paint, has managed to clock up an impressive eight survivors! Notoriously slothful painter Leon (A.K.A Pulp Citizen) has finished three zeds in two weeks, which must be some kind of a record. Finally Adam, over on his Miniatures, Painting and Hobbies blog increased the undead population of Havensburg 16 with a zombie bride.

My three consisted of two Studio Miniatures and one plastic Zombie Vixen by Wargames Factory. When the Zombie Vixen box arrived I was initially a bit disappointed and concerned that the detailing was soft- I am used to Games Workshop, Warlord Games and even Gripping Beasts, who produce well cast and sharply details plastics that rival their metal ranges. Considering that Wargames Factory specialise in plastics, I would have expected a higher standard. However the figures have a good variety of components and bodies, meaning they can be assembled in a variety of different poses. They go together well, and scale well with my other zombies, including the Studio Miniatures. They are also very inexpensive, costing about 52p each, as opposed to £2.25 for Studio Miniatures, so perhaps a little bit of soft detail can be forgiven. They are also a million times better that the male zombies Wargames Factory brought out a few years ago.

First off: a zombie chambermaid. The poor thing has lost her nose and has had a few bites and scratches on her arms and legs, but otherwise she is fairly intact. This figure is assembled from the Zombie Vixens kit.

Next: This zombie is in an advanced state of decomposition. Presumably he has been shuffling around like this for quite a while. His green shirt and grey trousers have been reduced to tattered rags.

Finally: This unfortunate street kid, in his baggy jeans and tee shirt, has succumb to the wounds inflicted during a zombie attack. He has had a big bite taken out of his neck and has had one of his hands chewed off. Not nice.

Keep up the good work fellow Zombie Bloggers.

Arrgh! Zombies! (Zomtober Week One)

The zombie horde always begins with just one or two walkers, just stumbling around. If your not careful it quickly escalates as the irmoaning attracts others. Before to long you will be over run by an army of ravenous walking dead!

Week on of Zomtober has been a good week, despite being very busy with real life stuff. I have managed to complete two zeds. I have also received, via Ebay, a pack of Wargames Factory’s Zombie Vixens, and have managed to put a few of those together too. I will paint those up and review them, all in good time.

In addition to the Osombie movie I reviewed last week I have been watching Walking Dead series 1 again, listening to “I’m Alive: A Story of Survival” from Zombie Podcast and playing a lot of Zombiecide. This has no doubt effected my judgment and taste, and consequently I have painting these two a lot more gruesome that my previous zombies. I have, however, stuck to the green zombie flesh, as I still love the old-school zombie films.

My first Zombtober walker is this poor, unfortunate librarian. Too slow to escape the zombie attack, she has lost an arm. However, judging by the blood stains around her mouth she looks like she has been gorging herself on the flesh of another victim too.

“Aaahhh…brains…”
“Sshh! This is a library!”

My second zombie was obviously better prepared for the outbreak, as he has a handgun. Not that it did him much good because he still had most of his face chewed off. That’s his eyeball hanging down his cheek.

Both these zombies are by Studio Miniatures, and the bases are from Fenris games.
