Across The Dead Earth: 'Pet' Hyenas

Reader of my other blog, Hotel Zugando, may haver seen these before as I painted six of them for my Zugando modern African setting. Six seemed a little excessive and when Simon Q (Brummie) suggested I used them for a post-apocalypse setting I thought it was a good idea so I re-based  two of them to use in AtDE.
Quite how a gang for AtDE got to own two 'pet' hyenas is a back story I need to work on, but in the mean time here they are, in all their vicious snarlyness. The figures are from North Star's African range with mussels and collars made from Greenstuff and chains made from jewellery chains.

AtDE: Another Rag Market Trader

Joe the Soleman is another of the merchants living and working in the Rag Market (the post-apocalypse ruins of Britain's second largest city- Birmingham). He specialises in supplying pre-war shoes for the discerning customer- not the post war canvas or leather rubbish most folks wear, but the supremely comfortable trainers and boots made with amazing fabrics which mankind has lost the knowledge and skills to manufacture. These items aren't just foot-ware...they are collectors items, works of art and relics of a lost age.

The majority of the items the Soleman sells are reconditioned. He is skilled at repairing old shoes and making them as good as new (well almost). He buys pre-war shoes off gangs, no questions asked, and will pay top Points even if they are splattered with mud or blood.

What really gets the Soleman excited is when he comes across a mint condition pair of pre-war shoes and boots...such a find happens rarely nowadays, but when it does the whole Rag Market will be buzzing with rumours and excitement. Any gang coming across such loot will be well advised to speak to the Soleman first, as he has the connections with the wealthy private collectors in the Trade Guild and the State who have the Points to spend on such a rarity.

AtDE: Rag Market Trader (Gameboy the Grey)

Gameboy is a trader in the Rag Market (formally known as Birmingham). He buys and sells computer components and electrical goods looted from the ruins of the shops and offices around the Rag Market.
Many consider him a wizard of sorts, and some jokingly call him Gameboy the Grey. He knows much of the Lore of Computers that has been lost since the war. He is old...perhaps one of the oldest of all the rag market residence, and he has the wisdom which only comes with age. his sagely advice is much sought after by the younger generations.
Gameboy doesn't collect his own computers any more- he is too old and frail for that. Instead he hires young gangers to go out into the city ruins and fetch it back foir him. Its dangerous work, but Gamboy always pays well for their loot.

Gameboy is a Lead Adventure Miniature figure, one of a small collection of post-apocalypse traders. He was a pleasure to paint. the resin base is from Fenris Games. I think he will work equally well as part of my my occasional scifi Scum and Villainy collection.

AtDE: Solly Hell Savages

I have had a go at working out a gang for Across the Dead Earth. I am still looking forward to my ATDE figures from the Kick Starter, but in the mean time I thought I would dust of a few bad guys I painted for my SciFi collection (entitled Scum and Villainy) and work out some stats for the Solly Hell Savages.

The figures lack a lot of fire power, so my gang is quite large (there are two more figures I haven't finished painting yet, making it seven in total- big for a AtDE gang. that said, they are probably going to get shot to pieces by anyone else.

They are bandits who dwell in the ruins of a town to the south east of the Rag Market and prey on anyone foolish enough to stray to close. The Guild has placed a bounty on them after they attacked a trade caravan.

Casey (Leader)
Toughness, 3 actions, walky talky,
pistol, punch dagger (counts as short sword), dagger

Brutal (scrapper)
Broard Sword, Dagger

Link (scrapper)
Chain, Dagger

Scratch (Sharp Shooter)
Combat Shotgun, Dagger

Vile (Scrapper)
Scimitar, Dagger

The gang will also feature Scratch's Brother, Sniff- who is an Assault Specialist with an Assault rifle and an axe, and a yuff armed with a pistol and a knife (cannon fodder?). Hopefully I will get them finished soon.

AtDE: Wrecked London Bus

Another bit of scenery for Across the Dead Earth- a London bus. This is a repainted die-cast I have had in my cupboard for a couple of years (I got it from the entertainer). It might be a tad under scale for 28mm, but I think it will work OK as a bit of scenery. I really enjoyed going overboard on the weathering and rust effects.
The only other problem is that these sort of red buses are not really found in Birmingham ( or the Rag Market as it is known in AtDE) and I was really planning oln setting my games in and around Birmingham. However, saying that, the thing that makes AtDE stand out (for me at least) is that it is a post-apoc game set in Britain, and what could be more ironically British than a red bus?

Also kudos to Brummie for his outdoor photography techniques- it saved me having to get the scenery out of the attic.

The inspiration for this piece came form several cool bits of post apoc art like this one...

AtDE: Wrecked Cars for Across The Dead Earth

Here are a couple of diecast repaints I have done for Across the Dead Earth, a post apocalypse game set in Britain forty or so years after a devastating war/disaster. I wanted to do a few wrecked and really rusted vehicals. I was going for a 'The Last of Us' vibe as that seems to fit with my idea of a post-apoc Britain.

These cars are diecast from the Disney Cars film. They are about 1/50 scale and that works just great for 28mm. A few of the vehicles have funny faces on the front but these are usually easy to cover with Green Stuff, Liquid Green Stuff or textured paint, then apply rust effect liberally to cover up the area and conceal the filler.
It's also worth remembering that a few of the vehicals have odd scales, exaggerated for comics effect, so it is worth checking out the car before you buy it if you can.
The bases for these models are made form a rubbery floor tile I bought form B+Q. it is soft and easy to cut with scissors or a craft knife.
The figures in the back ground will be featured soon- they are my stand in gang while I wait for my AtDE minis to be delivered from my Kick Starter.
