Pulp City Turf War!
This week Downtown Pulp City was in chaos as supremes clashed in the streets, demolished buildings, set of explosives, chucked cars about and generally caused havoc. Primate Terrorists (Freedom Fighters?) A.R.C. clashed with Dead Eye and his team of motley 'heroes' in what appeared to have been a turf war. The insurance claims for the resulting carnage is expected to exceed $15 million.
Le Murtiple, Silver Ager, Virus, Apebot, The Primate of Power, Doctor Red and Guerilla |
Harrier, Jade Hawk, Gentleman, Dead Eye, Amok, Repost and Pixel. |
Gentleman takes up a sniping position far above the streets. He thinks he is safe from the Apes. |
Silver-Ager makes his way up one flank with a couple of his latest inventions. |
...then makes short work of the unfortunate Jade Hawk |
Guerilla and Doctor Red try to keep Amok at bay by driving him back with a hail of minigun shells and grenades, but it just seems to make him more mad! |
Silver-Ager looses his patience with the Gentleman and throws a car at the building gentleman is sniping from, trying to destroy it, but even though it is badly damaged it is sill standing. |
Now incandescent with rage Amok takes out Guerilla and Doctor Red in a single rage filled explosion. |

Pulp City: Grimm
The Grimm are small, subterranean creatures that live in the sewers and tunnels beneath the city. They seem to be particularly prone to mutation, and many develop powers, or otherwise evolve rapidly into specialised roles.Citizens of Pulp City are only aware that they share their environment with the Grimm when they break through to the surface world and cause havoc. This is usually more of a nuisance than a threat, but recently they Grimm raids have been better coordinated and the Grimms themselves seem to becoming more powerful. Some scientists speculate that exposure to supreme is causing their unstable genes to mutate into supreme themselves!
These figures are the ones I painted for the Lead Painters League. They are from the Pulp City Range and are great fun to paint. If I remember correctly they are Grimmbiote, Grimm-Lee Chan, Supreme Grimm, The Toxic Grimmvenger and Grimmrock.

Fist Full of Kung Fu: Yakuza
I am sorry that I haven't posted much recently but I have been a bit under the weather. I am on the mend now and I wanted to kick off with these- Dixon Miniatures Yakuza gangsters I painted up principally to play Fist Full of Kung Fu, but I can see these bad guys getting a lot of use for many settings, such as hired thugs for the Jade Oni in Pulp City or battling suave British intelligence officers in SpyFi 7TV.
I bought these cheep in a bargain bucket at the Wolverhampton wargaming show...£6 for all 8! It would have been rude not to buy them. They are fairly simple 'old fashioned' sculpts compared to the new ones by North Star (the official ones for Fist Full of Kung Fu) but then again they are £17.50 for 7, so I got a bargain. Wargames Foundry makes some nice ones too, but they are £12 for 6, so I still got a good deal- but I do like their sumo wrestler body guard!
My Yakuza are a bit more colourful than the traditional black suited bad guy, but that's because sometimes I like to go a bit bright to jolly my mood up a bit. I think the will look smart with my Kiss Kiss Bang Bang figures, and if I do any more I will use some of the Foundry or North star guys and do those in the sharp suits, and use these Dixon ones as street level thugs.
Gang Boss (Oyabun) |
Couple of bad guys |
Serious bad guy who likes knives. A lot. |
Who brings a sword to a gun fight? These Guys. |

Subterranean Worm Monster Attacks New York!
An eye witness to the Worm attack in Central Park, NYC.
Another Reaper Bones here- this one being the Purple Worm- I love this figure- its just fantastic. I intend to use it in my Four Colour Superhero campaign as some sort of subterranean burrowing icky monster, (perhaps enslaved by the Mole-men)but its also good in any sci-fi, post apoc or fantasy setting too- I could just as easily see it making it into a Lord of the Rings game, for example. I love versatile models
It's a big model- as you can see in the bottom picture- that is with a 28mm Hasslefree figure!

Halloween Madness 3: The Dead Walk
Regular readers will know that each year Pulp Citizen and I get together and have a game of Pulp City themed on Halloween. This years wacky game features a LOT of zombies. Superhero on zombie action- What's not to like?
Pulp citizen has take my photos and tuned them into a story in is usual style- It's very cool but its epic, so rather than reproduce the entire battle report here, I would rather refer you to his excellent blog.
Pulp citizen is a Pulp City obsessed nut, but he is also one of the writers working on the second edition of the rules, so we used a play test version of second edition. If there is anything that seems a bit odd, that is probably why.
Anyway, with out further ado here is a link to Pulp Citizen's Blog- I hope you enjoy.

Four Colour: Ape Assassin!
No one really knows the origins of the mutant ape-men. Many speculate that they are the result of some bizarre experiment by some wicked villain or evil scientists: An attempt, perhaps, to recreate the exact conditions that caused the ARC primates to become super-powered supremes.
What is known is that the primate freedom fighters know as ARC liberated them from a laboratory, and since then they have been working with ARC as henchmen.
While most ape-men are content to work as thugs or hired guns, a few have the personality and dedication to study under ARC ninja-master Chimp Chi, and to learn the exotic martial arts known as Ape-Ki. Those who can master the art as fast, deadly and utterly devoted to the ARC cause.

Four Colour: Monkey Minions!
Pulp Citizen and I to be painting 'minions' for our themed month this month. I have been away, so I am a bit behind schedule and so I have decided to cheat a bit and post a picture of some minions I painted for the Lead Painters League. These are some ape minions I painted for Pulp City, to use with my favorite super team- namely ARC, a team of super-evolved ape mercenaries In Pulp City I will be using these as Thugs and Hired Guns.
These figures are made by Crooked Dice for 7TV, but they work great as minions for Pulp City.

Four Colour: Agents of DEFEND
DEFEND is the Department for the Enforcement of Extraordinary National Defense is a top secret government paramilitary organisation. Their brief is to protect the nation from all treats related to super-humans, super technology, alien and mystical threats.
Their agents are highly trained, and equipped with cutting edge technology (much of it reverse engineered from tech captured form super villains and aliens). They are skilled at identifying weaknesses and exploiting them, as well as containing captured super-powered individuals. While an individual agent might be no match for a powerful superhuman, their sue of tactics and team work mean they can overwhelm most superhuman threats.
They are well funded, channeling resources from the government 'black-ops' budget. Their existence is not well know, even in the highest circles of power, and many of those who do know about them question who exactly leads them, and who they are accountable to.

Christmas Madness 2012: The Revenge of Bad Santa
It was Christmas Eve, in Pulp City,
and no one stirred, not even a mouse.
Well, except for Bad Santa and a load of primate terrorists.
Well, except for Bad Santa and a load of primate terrorists.
And some Zombie Christmas Elves.
And giant evil snowmen.
OK- not a great poem, but it is a great battle report, courtesy of my mate Pulp Citizen.
Merry Christmas everyone. See you on the other side.

British Police Special Operations Officers
Here’s a little ‘aside’ from Super November-
Three British Police Special Operations Officers. I am not sure who makes these
figures, but they are rather nice: I bought them on Ebay a while ago. They will
be very versatile, as I will be able to use them in my Superhero campaign (set
in Britain), and in Zombie scenarios. In 2013 I intend to expand my range,
adding more British police, and possibly some terrorists or other nasty
criminal classes.

Mr Pink and Armand (KKBB)
Mr Pink is a fashoinista, one of the hip, happening crowd
dominating the Swinging London scene: He also happens to be an international
jewel thief. Anything but discreet, Mr Pink’s effete persona and cast iron
alibis mean that no one would suspect him of his outrageous, daring crimes.
Seen here with his personal assistant, the ever-loyal
Armand. Armand’s many and varied skills include being a black belt in judo, a quick-draw with a pistol and able to cut a suit from a bolt of cloth in
under three minutes!
This pair are from the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang range produced
jointly by Artizan Productions and Copplestone Castings. (Mr Pink is Artizan
and Armand is Copplestone).
I have tried very hard to inject bright colours into my
entire KKBB range, to suggest the whole sixties psychedelic era. I know it’s
not historically accurate, and is more Austin Powers than Simon Templar, but
that’s the look I am after. It’s a nice contrast to the dowdy colours of my
1930’s VBCW range.
The problem is that I have been thinking about how I
was going to paint Mr Pink for ages- he looks so serious and strait laced, with
his bowler hat and suit. The obvious thing would to go for pin stripes and a
stiff banker look, but he would look so dull. In a moment of inspiration I dug
out some bright pink paint and started slapping it on- as soon as I stared I
knew I was on to something. All I had to do was come up with a rational for a
man dressed in a pink suit and bowler hat.

Fresh Blood for the Order of Anubis
Here are two new warriors for the Order of Anubis, the
ancient order of vampire-knights who continue their duty into modern times.
Sworn to protect vampire kind from all threats, these undead soldiers of the
night have embraced modern technology along side more traditional fighting
methods, making them lethal foes to be feared by their enemies.
Misha is a vixen. She may lack the combat prowess of the
other knights, but over a century and a half as a vampire has given her a
unique skill set: she can manipulate anyone, using her beauty, charm, charisma
and, if the situation requires it, the threat of extreme violence, to coheres
people into doing her wishes. In many ways she is the respectable face of the
Order of Anubis, an envoy who can smooth over problems before they escalate.
But for all her honeyed words, it is wise to remember that the full force of
the Order backs her up.
Erin appears to be a teenage girl, a guise she likes to
foster as it often causes foes to underestimate her. If fact she was born in
Europe three centuries ago, and has devoted her undead life to the service of
the Order of Anubis. She rejects most modern weapons in favour of the more
traditional. Having spent five decades in Japan, studying kenjitsu, her
preferred weapon is a silvered katana, Moonblade, made by the legendary swordsmith
Muramasa
in the 13th century.
Here’s a group shot of the knights of the Order of Anubis.
From left to right: Misha; McLeod; Deacon; Amilie and Erin.
Misha
and Erin are both by Copplestone Castings as part of Mark Copplestone’s Future
Wars range- they are listed under Corporate Babes. I bought both packs of
Corporate Babes as they have some figures I think I will be able to disarm and
convert into modern civilians, but these two stood out from the rest and are
crying out to be vampires.

Diplomatic Attaché and Driver
Commander James Castle, seen here on the left, is a former
RN officer, who now works for the foreign office as diplomatic attaché to Her
Majesties Embassy in Moscow. Rumours that he is a fully sanctioned member of
MI6, with a licence to kill, have been neither confirmed nor deigned.
Castle’s associate, Mr Rick Seaborne, is apparently a low
level employee at the embassy, working as Commander Castle’s driver. The fact
that he is fluent in Russian, a crack shot and a black belt at karate surges
his true vocation might lie elsewhere.
Again two more figures from the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang range- Castle is by Copplestone Castings, while Seaborne is by Artizan Designs.

KKBB Boiler Suited Henchmen
These
henchmen are no exception, having been kitted out with bright yellow boiler
suits and nice shiny helmets to maker them even more conspicuous. Be wary
enemies of tyrants everywhere- these guys will be ready to die to stop you (and
no doubt they will, in droves!)
These figures are part of the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang range jointly produced by Copplestone Castings and Artizan Designs. Mark Copplestone sculpts these ones, and very nice they are too. They will also be useful as hirelings for super villains in my four colour campaign and as hired guns for Pulp City.

Fish Folk Hench Men
Lurking in the depths of the sea, inland waterways and even sewers, the Fish Folk, as they are often known, are said to serve their dark masters and prey on unsuspecting humans. No one knows where they came from- perhaps they are alien, or demonic? Mutants or the result of some vile experiment?
Recently the Fish Folk have got more bold in their attacks, and the rumor persist that they have got a new king, who is said to come from the 'Dry World'. The identity of this messianic figure is as yet, unknown, but the Superheroes are doing all they can to stop the Fish Folk and find out the villains true identity!
I have been acutely conscious for some time at the lack of 'Four Colour' content in the blog. My African stuff, and the Lead Painters League have been taking up so much of my painting and modeling time that I have been slacking on the four colour front. I decided to rectify this, at least in a small way, by slapping some paint on these chaps.
I opted for a nice Kermit the Frog green as I thought it would make them look a bit more 'four colour' and a bit less CoC. These figures are Deep Ones made by Black Cat Bases, but I think that they are great for Supers, for SciFi aliens, or even for Conanesque demons- a very versatile figure really. As all way my resin bases are by Fenris Games and are available on eBay.
I see these guys being used as henchmen for any aquatic villain in my supers campaign. In Pulp City they will be slaves for the aquatic alien race known as the Ulthar.

Knuckles the Clown
Knuckles the Clown is a circus entertainer and small time thug (small being the right word, he's only four foot tall) who got hooked up with the Killa Klown gang. He makes money from menacing shop keepers and business men, with threats of sending 'Bonzo and the boys' round to have a little fun if they don't pay up.

Knuckles preferred weapon is the brass knuckle dusters. And given his height, the chances are he's going to be punching below the belt.
I was aware of the lack of four colour content in 2012, and thought it time I added a few supers to he blog. I found this little fellow waiting to be painted (where he has been waiting for about 12 months). I painted him in about 30 minutes, just to get him finisghed- he's not the best painted figure I have ever done, but I am satisfied with him, especially when stood in with the other gang members.

Ulric Bloomen: Agent for Hire (KKBB)
The world is full of unsavory characters willing to sell their services to the highest bidder. This is a resent pictures of Ulric Bloomen, a former East German spy, who now works as a freelance agent and assassin.
Another Copplestone KKBB figure, and a particular nice one. I always love painting Mark Copplestones stuff- he is by far my favorite sculptor when it comes to painting- his stuff might not be that dynamical posed, but his clean lines, lack of clutter and his characterful faces are always fun to paint.
My instinct when I picked up this figure was to painting him in dowdy colours, perhaps a grey or navy jacket etc, but I fought the urge and adopted my KKBB mantra- 'Brighter is better'- and opted for lime green. I am delighted with the result, a this figure immediately stands out from my VBCW figures with his unlikely choice of coat. Not very inconspicuous form a spy, I will grant you, but I think it has a cool retro Austin Powers look to it. So far I am pleased with the way my colours are coming out with this range.

Evil Genius and Goons (KKBB)
Since my good lady wife bought me the entire range of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (KKBB) stuff for Christmas, I have been painting a few of them, just to try out some ideas.
KKBB is based on the old spy movies and TV series from the sixties and seventies, like James Bond and The Man from UNCLE. Drawing on this source, and the spoof movie Austin Powers, I have opted to paint my KKBB stuff very colourful. This will also be a nice change from my VBCW painting, which, being set in 1938, has used very dowdy and dull colours.
Here is my first KKBB post. Evil genius Doctor Helmut Von Kriegg, megalomaniac scientist dedicated to world domination, along with some of his jump-suited henchmen and, of course, his pet Persian cat, Mr Pickles.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a range of miniatures jointly sculpted and manufactured by Artizan Designs and Copplestone Castings. Here the evil genius was from Artizan, and the henchmen from Copplestone.
Obviously there is some cross-over potential to my to my
four-colour stuff here too. The henchmen could easily be employed by a super villain, which is useful.
