Pulp City Turf War!

This week  Downtown Pulp City was in chaos as supremes clashed in the streets, demolished buildings, set of explosives, chucked cars about and generally caused havoc. Primate Terrorists (Freedom Fighters?) A.R.C. clashed with Dead Eye and his team of motley 'heroes' in what appeared to have been a turf war. The insurance claims for the resulting carnage is expected to exceed $15 million.

Le Murtiple, Silver Ager, Virus, Apebot, The Primate of Power, Doctor Red and Guerilla

Harrier, Jade Hawk, Gentleman, Dead Eye, Amok, Repost and Pixel.

Gentleman takes up a sniping position far above the streets. He thinks he is safe from the Apes.

Silver-Ager makes his way up one flank with a couple of his latest inventions.

ARC decide the easiest way to get the slippery Jade Hawk off a rooftop is to bring the whole building down. Luckily they have just the ape to do that! Apebot makes short work of the office building...

...then makes short work of the unfortunate Jade Hawk

Guerilla and Doctor Red try to keep Amok at bay by driving him back with a hail of minigun shells and grenades, but it just seems to make him more mad!

Silver-Ager looses his patience with the Gentleman and throws a car at the building gentleman is sniping from, trying to destroy it, but even though it is badly damaged it is sill standing.

Now incandescent with rage Amok takes out Guerilla and Doctor Red in a single rage filled explosion.

Apebot finally batters Amok down before turning his attention to Pixel.

The mission objective was for either side to get a supreme into the enemies deployment zone while preventing the enemy getting into their zone. The end resulted in a draw. Le Murtiple managed to take down Gentleman, but he escaped thanks to his Stun Grenade ability, which meant that in the final turn Pulp Citizen had a single supreme in his own zone (with 1HP) with Le Murtiple,  and Pixel and Repost in my zone, with Apebot, Virus and The Primate of Power.

And I would have got away with it if it wasn't for that pesky stun grenade!

Pulp City: Grimm

The Grimm are small, subterranean creatures that live in the sewers and tunnels beneath the city. They seem to be particularly prone to mutation, and many develop powers, or otherwise evolve rapidly into specialised roles.Citizens of Pulp City are only aware that they share their environment with the Grimm when they break through to the surface world and cause havoc. This is usually more of a nuisance than a threat, but recently they Grimm raids have been better coordinated and the Grimms themselves seem to becoming more powerful. Some scientists speculate that exposure to supreme is causing their unstable genes to mutate into supreme themselves!

These figures are the ones I painted for the Lead Painters League. They are from the Pulp City Range and are great fun to paint. If I remember correctly they are Grimmbiote, Grimm-Lee Chan, Supreme Grimm, The Toxic Grimmvenger and Grimmrock.

Christmas Madness 2014: The Snowman Cometh

Just to prove I haven't been entirely idle during December, here is our annual Christmas Madness battle report. The figures and the scenery belong to Pulp Citizen and me, and I scratch built the Snowman (based on Marshmallow from Disney's Frozen). This stylish Battle Report was all the work of Pulp Citizen, who did a great job turning my photos into a story.

I have painted lots more stuff, as well as Marshmallow, but the light has been to poor and I have been to busy to get good photos. perhaps after Christmas I might have more time to get some better photos- expect a flurry of pictures soon. In the mean time, as Pulp Citizen says "Thanks for Reading and Merry Christmas!".

Jungle Ruins from a Pet Shop!

Here are a couple of goldfish ornaments I bought form my local petshop- Pets at Home. The Buddha head I bought a while ago, but the ruins I only picked up this week. I think these will be great for any games of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Pulp City, or IHMN set in the jungle. Cheep, preprinted scenery is always welcome!

Here you can see my KKBB villain Ezekiel Maxwell and some of his henchmen as they inspect the ruins, searching for the Green Diamond he needs to build his latest dooms day device.

Jungle Halloween Madness 2014

It's Halloween again and Pulp Citizen and I were not about to let it pass unnoticed, so we held another of our annual Halloween Madness games of Pulp City- using the second edition set of the rules which will be out VERY soon.

The figures are Pulp Citizen's own, except the ninja minions (I did those). I also made the jungle and the Idol of the Ape God too. Thanks to Pulp Citizen for editing my photos with his usual style.

We transferred the supernatural action to the steamy jungles of South America, and pitted the indomitable forces of nature verses the relentless minions of Science, in a story we called...

Fist Full of Kung Fu: Yakuza

I am sorry that I haven't posted much recently but I have been a bit under the weather. I am on the mend now and I wanted to kick off with these- Dixon Miniatures Yakuza gangsters I painted up principally to play Fist Full of Kung Fu, but I can see these bad guys getting a lot of use for many settings, such as hired thugs for the Jade Oni in Pulp City or battling suave British intelligence officers in SpyFi 7TV.

I bought these cheep in a bargain bucket at the Wolverhampton wargaming show...£6 for all 8! It would have been rude not to buy them. They are fairly simple 'old fashioned' sculpts compared to the new ones by North Star (the official ones for Fist Full of Kung Fu) but then again they are £17.50 for 7, so I got a bargain. Wargames Foundry makes some nice ones too, but they are £12 for 6, so I still got a good deal- but I do like their sumo wrestler body guard!

My Yakuza are a bit more colourful than the traditional black suited bad guy, but that's because sometimes I like to go a bit bright to jolly my mood up a bit. I think the will look smart with my Kiss Kiss Bang Bang figures, and if I do any more I will use some of the Foundry or North star guys and do those in the sharp suits, and use these Dixon ones as street level thugs.

Gang Boss (Oyabun)
Couple of bad guys

Serious bad guy who likes knives. A lot.

Who brings a sword to a gun fight? These Guys.

Pulp City Second Edition on Kick Starter

A very exciting day for my good pal Pulp Citizen, as the Kick Starter for the Second Edition of the Super Hero game Pulp City has just gone live and the success has been phenomenal- Its just a few hours in and they are already well past their first target!
In case you don't know, Pulp Citizen, my regular gaming buddy and writer of the fan-blog which bears the same name, is co-writing the second edition rules. I had the good fortune to play-test some of the rules while they were under development, an I can assure you that they are great. They keep the spirit of the game, but are much slicker and fast pace, creating combats that are dynamic and exiting to play.
This is going to be one of those Kick Starters you need to be involved it, as it is going to run and run, with loads of freebies and stretch goals. I have already pledged to be in, to get a copy of the rules and the starter kits (which are lovely). If you have got a spare $800 you can even get your own figure designed and added into the game! Mental!
Anyway- stop reading this and check out this Kick Starter! You will not regret it one bit!

Christmas Madness 2013: Once upon a Time in Lapland

It's that time of year again when our thoughts turn to the festive fun we can have playing Pulp City (well, that's what I think of!). Mr Pulp Citizen and I have got together and managed to get another holiday themed Pulp City game in. Last years game ended in a win for Bad Santa, leading to a generally dull, cheer-free year for the unfortunate citizens of Pulp City. This year the Bad Santa and his Villainous allies go toe to toe with the Good Santa and the Heroes of Pulp City in a rumble in the frozen forests of Lapland.

Basically it was a game of 'grab as many Christmas spirit markers (the red and green presents and the snow man) and get them back into your board edge.' Steeling Christmas Spirit of the enemy is fine too, especially for the villains.

We deliberately went for Pulp City characters we haven't used many times before, to keep things fresh (and to stop me whipping Pulp Citizens ass with the primate mercenaries of ARC- my favourite team).

The Pulp City figures are all from Pulp Citizens collection- the snow men and zombies are mine. The scenery was mostly scratch built by me, as were the Christmas spirit markers. The log cabins were by 4Ground and the snow covered board was custom made by Total System Sceneics.

Many thanks to Pulp Citizen for editing the photos I took into this super AAR.

Halloween Madness 3: The Dead Walk

Regular readers will know that each year Pulp Citizen and I get together and have a game of Pulp City themed on Halloween. This years wacky game features a LOT of zombies. Superhero on zombie action- What's not to like?

Pulp citizen has take my photos and tuned them into a story in is usual style- It's very cool but its epic, so rather than reproduce the entire battle report here, I would rather refer you to his excellent blog.

Pulp citizen is a Pulp City obsessed nut, but he is also one of the writers working on the second edition of the rules, so we used a play test version of second edition. If there is anything that seems a bit odd, that is probably why.

Anyway, with out further ado here is a link to Pulp Citizen's Blog- I hope you enjoy.

Four Colour: More Ape Assassins!

Two more henchmen for my ARC gang in Pulp City. Once more these are head swaps, with the heads from Crooked Dice and the bodies from the Pulp City Ninjas. Many thanks to Pulp Citizen form supplying the bodies for this little projects.
